My brief review:
joyfully hilarious and light-heartedly enlightening

************************************************************

This year's pantomime is a corker - written by our very own Kate Hannam (star of Addams Family, Sleeping Beauty and more) - the Quay Players gives a brand new take on classic pantomime story Aladdin.

This pantomime is set in a typical China town. It started with a song called “ Good morning Chinatown”, introducing the setting and various roles of the story. The stage is full of Chinese elements such as: lanterns, Chinese fans, Chinese costumes such as Qipao. This show is very engaging and interactive by eliciting responses and inviting the audiences to take part in. It’s joyfully hilarious and light-heartedly enlightening, which can be a great event for families, especially those with kids.

Wikipedia gives a detailed account of this fairy tale.

Aladdin, is a Middle Eastern folk tale. It is one of the tales in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights ("The Arabian Nights"), and one of the best known.

Aladdin is an impoverished young ne'er-do-well in a Chinese town. He is recruited by a sorcerer from the Maghreb, who passes himself off as the brother of Aladdin's late father Mustapha the tailor, convincing Aladdin and his mother of his good will by apparently making arrangements to set up the lad as a wealthy merchant. The sorcerer's real motive is to persuade young Aladdin to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a booby-trapped magic cave. After the sorcerer attempts to double-cross him, Aladdin finds himself trapped in the magic cave. Fortunately, Aladdin retains a magic ring lent to him by the sorcerer as protection. When he rubs his hands in despair, he inadvertently rubs the ring and a jinnī (or "genie") appears who takes him home to his mother. Aladdin is still carrying the lamp. When his mother tries to clean it, a second far more powerful genie appears who is bound to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp.
With the aid of the genie of the lamp, Aladdin becomes rich and powerful and marries Princess Badroulbadour, the Emperor's daughter (after magically foiling her marriage to the vizier's son). The genie builds Aladdin a wonderful palace, a far more magnificent one than that of the Emperor himself.
The sorcerer returns and is able to get his hands on the lamp by tricking Aladdin's wife (who is unaware of the lamp's importance) by offering to exchange "new lamps for old". He orders the genie of the lamp to take the palace along with all its contents to his home in the Maghreb. Fortunately, Aladdin still has the magic ring and is able to summon the lesser genie. Although the genie of the ring cannot directly undo any of the magic of the genie of the lamp, he is able to transport Aladdin to the Maghreb where he recovers the lamp and kills the sorcerer in battle, returning the palace (complete with the princess) to its proper place.
The sorcerer's more powerful and evil brother tries to destroy Aladdin for killing his brother by disguising himself as an old woman known for her healing powers. Badroulbadour falls for his disguise and commands the "woman" to stay in her palace in case of any illnesses. Aladdin is warned of this danger by the genie of the lamp and slays the imposter. Everyone lives happily ever after, Aladdin eventually succeeding to his father-in-law's throne.

So what's the moral of this folk tale? Shall I say

My Brief Review:
unprecedentedly marvelous!

*********************************************************************

The incredibly successful Lord of the Dance is now back to London! Created and produced by the hugely admired and respected Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley, who found his first name starring in River Dance, and composed by Ronan Hardiman, this unprecedentedly marvelous iconic hit brings you the breath-taking theater experience with a talented team of performers.

Most press releases describe Dangerous Games as “Extraordinary," “Entertaining” and “Explosive”, an “Extravaganza," I would like to add that it’s absolutely Enjoyable, and Engaging. In a word, it is “ Excellent”. That's why I have see it twice, and I still want come back to it.

The story is based on an ancient Irish legend: the cute yet powerful Little Spirit defend and protect the Lord of the dance against the evil forces along the journey in a Irish forest.

The dance fuses tap dance, ballet and acrobatics harmoniously, weaving the ancient Irish legendary story through the change of seasons into a tapestry of the journey protecting the Lord of the dance.

The Performers:

Flatley used to star in his dances, yet now he retires to give other young talented performers the chance to shine, who are mostly trained by himself.

The costumes:

The costumes are glittering, with large array of changes and styles. I particularly like the white costume that fuses ballet and harem pants style, which is elegant, sexy, as well as sporty. Another highlight in the costumes is the sudden change from folk style to sexy vibes.

The instruments:

The clarinet and the violin are indispensable in Irish culture and dance. The clarinet in the Spirit’s hands has the magic power to wake up the world as well as weaken the evil forces. The violins are played by two bright lovely girls to celebrate the joy and peace in the lively forest.

The opposing forces

The opposing forces are not only between the Lord of the dance and the evil group, but also between the girls who rival for the love and attention from the Lord of the dance. This is represented and elaborated by the fight, the expression in their eyes, and the opposite colors of their costumes.

Modern Technology

Over 100 computers are utilized to ensure the splendid effects on the stage. The background video and the dancers’ performances are precisely synchronized to offer audience the unprecedentedly marvelous experience.
